A Safe Space for Your Loved One

It’s honestly been amazing. Poppy took to it straight away and understood it was her new place to sleep. She calls it her “den bed” and was asking for “zip up” by the second night. That second night she slept through - which I can count on one hand in nine years! The name “Safespace” really is exactly what it is for her. She seems to really feel secure and settled once she’s zipped in. Bedtime is calmer, there’s far less anxiety around going to sleep and she’s no longer constantly getting up and roaming the house whilst throwing herself around causing herself and others harm. She seems to enjoy the cosy, enclosed feel and will happily climb in herself at bedtime and ask for “light off”. Previously, she would wake me by hitting me in the head, which cannot happen anymore, Now, even if she does wake for hours in the night, she is happy to stay in her Safespace with her Tonie Box and she is calm instead of frantic and distressed. I can listen to her on the monitor and still rest my body in bed while listening out for her, rather than having to be physically up and managing behaviours. That alone has made a huge difference to my own wellbeing. It’s prevented her from getting up in the night and targeting her sleeping siblings, which used to cause a lot of disruption and distress for everyone. It’s also meant that when my other children need me during the night, I can go to them knowing Poppy isn’t going to try to leave her room, escape the house or hurt herself. That peace of mind is huge - we’re not on constant high alert anymore during the night. As a family, we’re all getting more consistent sleep. The other children feel safer and more settled at night knowing I can go to them when they need me. It’s reduced stress across the household and made nights feel much more manageable instead of completely overwhelming. The fitter mentioned that some families struggle to find sheets that stay put on the mattress. I ordered 40cm deep fitted sheets from Amazon and they’ve worked perfectly - they stay put even with a soft mattress topper underneath. We wanted a Safespace to be spacious, airy and full of light. We got exactly that and even if it's early days our boy is very happy, he slept for 12 hours in it the first night!! And we know he will love his Safespace more and more each day because it's not just for sleeping but his own "little" space to play, to relax, to self regulate, for sensory play and the Safespace is just perfect for it all.

The bed is absolutely AMAZING! The 2 guys that came an fitted it were great, they fitted it and then spend time talking to us about how to care for it well, please pass on to their Boss that they went above and beyond. Aspen loves it. He was a little unsure then really really excited and he SLEPT ALL NIGHT! This morning he didn't want to come out. Thank you for being part of our lives for so long, you will always be part of Aspen's story.

I just wanted to let you know how Olivia is getting on in her Safespace. We are honestly all over the moon with it. It's such a calm, relaxing area for Olivia to relax in. Her sleeping is much much better, she has slept through on many occasions (although not every night) but it has improved everyone's sleep. We are able to relax knowing she can't hurt herself in any way. When she does wake up she's quite chilled in there. Thank you to yourself and all of your team for saving us. When I'm in there I don't want to get out, I've even caught the dog in there on a few occasions and she doesn't want to get out either.
